Widman's Candy

Widman’s Candy is a fifth-generation, family-owned confectioner with roots dating back to 1885, when William Widman I began crafting handmade candies and baked goods in Dubuque, Iowa. Over more than a century, the Widman family has refined its recipes, techniques, and use of quality ingredients to create a distinctive line of sweets, including the signature chocolate-covered potato chips known as “Chippers.” This long-standing tradition of craftsmanship and innovation continues to define Widman’s Candy, where each piece is made with the same care, pride, and attention to detail that began with the original Widman kitchen.

Today, Widman’s Candy serves customers across multiple locations while remaining firmly grounded in its family heritage. The legacy includes historic milestones such as George I and Clara Widman establishing Widman’s Candy in Crookston, Minnesota in 1911; George II and Betty Widman opening the Grand Forks, North Dakota shop in 1949; and Carol Widman Kennedy and David Kennedy launching Carol Widman’s Candy Co. in Fargo, North Dakota in 1990. The business is currently owned and operated by members of the Widman family in Fargo (Carol Widman Kennedy and David Kennedy), Grand Forks (Shawn Widman), and Crookston (George III, George IV, and Lois Widman), ensuring that every location continues the Widman tradition of exceptional handmade candy.
